Moon Shavings

This earth

is a cement-mixer

in constant motion

My heart

the construction site

inert and fallow

You

are the moon

cool fingers of light

carving into wetness

before I harden

Like flour

becoming loaf

or a moon a month

all year long

CANDICE KELSEY's work has appeared in such journals as Poet Lore, The Cortland Review, and North Dakota Quarterly -- also, several of her pieces have been incorporated into 3-D art installations. She was a finalist for Poetry Quarterly's Rebecca Lard Award and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize in nonfiction. Her first book of poetry, Still I am Pushing, will release March 3rd (Finishing Line Press).
